Eket Mask

The Eket are a sub-group of the Ibibio people.
The Eket have a form of caste or class society, with the Amama being the highest caste. In addition to the Amama, groups of Ekpo Ndem Isongclass rule individual villages and towns, and their will is enforced by the Ikan secret society (similar to the Fang’s Ngil).

This mask, with a human face, belongs to the Ikan, part of Ekpo Ndem Isong.

It has a special function to keep the society free from malefice, witches, and sorcerers.
