The Grebo are a West African people in east-central and south-eastern Liberia and western Ivory Coast, in a largely forested area. They are part of the Kru group.
Their well known male masks featuring geometric shapes and several pairs of tubular protruding eyes, are war masks designed to threaten the enemy.
This unusual piece is connected with the forest living spirits of the invisible world.

Such a unique mask! And nice to learn more about it too.
Thank you, Christy, glad you enjoyed it. This mask is indeed unusual (and genuine) when compared with the Grebo typical war masks. Please take a look at our other Grebo mask, which is quite unique, and has been worn, as attested by the inside traces.
Fascinating info & fabulous mask. Thank you!
You are much welcome, Resa ! Glad you like this piece, which is, indeed, extraordinary.
