Teke Mask

Neighbours of the Kongos, are the Teke/Bateke, Bantu people of Central Africa shared between the western Democratic Republic of Congo, south of the Republic of Congo and a minority, in the southeastern Gabon.

This flat “mask” stems from the area of the upper Ogowe and is used in ceremonies of the secret society KIDUMU, at circumcisions, marriage of a dignitary, or when forming alliances and debating jurisdiction.
