Mask Igbo, collection, African Homage

The Igbo people inhabits both sides of the Niger river.
Over the years Ibo people have embraced a great variety of beliefs and art styles from neighbouring tribes.
The wide variety of cultural influences from regional tribes, creates a rich cultural diversity and Igbo worship. This is clearly depicted in the ceremonial rituals, artistic creations, music, and song and dance.

This type of mask with scarifications on the face, anf a bird on the head, is used in different festive rituals celebrating the rain and harvesting. The presence of birds is important as they announce the rain, therefore rich harvesting.
